Compound pattern
Enclosed family compounds and the narrow lanes between them create a fine, cellular texture at the centre, irregular, dense and unmistakably Sahelian.

Mirriah Map Poster & Print
Mirriah lies in the Zinder Region of south-central Niger, a short distance southeast of the city of Zinder. The landscape is Sahelian: level ground, sandy soil and fields that depend on the rainy season. On a map the town appears as a compact centre of walled compounds and lanes, with tracks leaving it in many directions toward the surrounding villages.
The town is the seat of its department and has long served as a local centre for trade and farming. Its streets are irregular rather than planned, following the older arrangement of family compounds. That gives the drawing an organic, almost hand-made quality, quite different from the straight grids of newer cities and easy to recognise from above.
A Mirriah map poster is intentionally simple. There are few strong lines, just the road toward Zinder, the network of paths and the dense cluster of the town itself, but that economy is part of its appeal. It is a faithful portrait of a real place in the Sahel, drawn with the same care and detail as any capital.

Road to Zinder
The main road toward the regional capital is the strongest line on the map, linking Mirriah to the larger city a short distance to the northwest.
Radiating tracks
Sandy paths spread from the town toward outlying villages and fields, drawn as thin lines that fade gradually into the open land.

ለምን Mirriah
ትርጉም ያለው ካርታ
Maps of small Sahelian towns are hard to find, which makes this one especially meaningful for people from Mirriah or the Zinder region now living elsewhere. It shows home as it is, without embellishment, in a form that fits any room.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line can all be changed, and there are five styles to choose from: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand, the last of which suits this landscape well. Files are $9, with a free watermarked preview first.
