Branching tracks
Instead of a street grid, a network of tracks forks and curves between homesteads, producing an organic, hand-drawn look in the linework.

Mosopa Map Poster & Print
Mosopa is a village in the Ngwaketse area of southern Botswana, in dry savanna country at the eastern edge of the Kalahari. From above it looks nothing like a gridded town. Homesteads and compounds are spread out across the land, linked by a loose web of tracks, with a few firmer roads connecting the village to the rest of the district.
That loose pattern is exactly what makes the map interesting. Lines branch and curve according to use rather than planning, following the easiest paths between yards, fields and gathering places. The space between them is wide, and on a black and white print that openness becomes the main character of the design, much as the open landscape is part of daily life here.
A Mosopa map poster keeps the sparseness intact. It does not try to fill the page, and the lightness of the drawing reflects the scale of the place. For people from the village, or anyone with family ties to the Southern District, it is a precise and unusual picture of home.

Dispersed settlement
Buildings and yards are spread over a wide area rather than packed into a centre, so the map reads as a light scatter across the page.
Open savanna
The surrounding dry bushland appears as broad white space, a reminder of how much open country lies around each group of homes.
