Mpwapwa is a town in Dodoma Region, in the centre of Tanzania. It lies where hills rise above the surrounding plain, and the higher ground holds more water and greenery than the dry country around it. That setting made it a long-standing stopping point on routes through the interior.
The town has an old administrative and mission history, and it is known in Tanzania as a centre of livestock research. On a map, its streets cluster below the hills, with main roads leading out across the plain and smaller lanes climbing towards the slopes.
