Mukandgarh is a small town in the Shekhawati region of Rajasthan, in Jhunjhunu district. Like its neighbours, it grew under local Rajput rulers and wealthy merchant families, and on a map it shows a close, irregular core of lanes around a fort, surrounded by flat farmland and sandy ground.
Shekhawati is known for its havelis, merchant mansions decorated with painted murals, and Mukandgarh has its share of these along its streets. The town's fort, which gives the settlement its name, now functions as a heritage hotel.
