Nanganga is a town in the Mtwara Region of southern Tanzania, well inland from the Indian Ocean coast. The region is known for growing cashews, and the country around the town mixes small farms, cashew groves and patches of dry woodland. From above, the settlement appears as a loose cluster of buildings along its main road.
Like many rural centres in southern Tanzania, Nanganga grew around its transport link, not around a formal plan. Houses, shops and plots line the road, with footpaths and tracks scattered behind them. Beyond these, fields and trees stretch toward neighbouring villages, so the town's outline is soft and irregular.
