Nova Olímpia is a municipality in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso, in the south-west of the state. Like many towns in the region, it is relatively young and was laid out with purpose. On a map the urban area forms a clear grid of straight streets and rectangular blocks set in wide, open land.
Agriculture shapes the landscape beyond the town. Large fields with sharp edges, many of them devoted to sugarcane, cover much of the territory, crossed by rural roads and service tracks. Rivers and strips of riverside forest create darker, winding lines between the cultivated plots.
