Straight arterial roads such as 95th Street and Cicero Avenue cross the village at regular intervals, and between them sit orderly blocks of residential streets. The village grew rapidly in the decades after the Second World War as a suburban community, and much of its street plan reflects that period. Advocate Christ Medical Center, one of the region's major hospitals, occupies a large site within Oak Lawn and forms a distinct block on the map.
