Piera lies in the Anoia comarca of Catalonia, west of Barcelona, in the rolling country between the coastal ranges and the interior. From above, the municipality is fragmented and spread out. The historic town sits on higher ground, and a number of residential developments and hamlets are scattered across the surrounding hills and farmland.
The old centre is compact, with narrow, winding streets that fit the terrain.
