Pirassununga lies in the interior of São Paulo state, in rolling farm country between Campinas and Ribeirão Preto. The town centre follows the regular grid typical of towns in the region, with a central square and straight streets leading out in every direction.
The most distinctive feature on the map is the Academia da Força Aérea, the Brazilian Air Force Academy, which occupies a large area outside the town with long runways. The Mogi Guaçu River runs to the north, and the waterfall at Cachoeira de Emas is a well-known local sight on its course.
