Piripiri lies in the north of Piauí, in northeastern Brazil, on the drier ground between the coast and the interior. The town has a fairly regular layout, with straight streets forming blocks around the centre and newer districts extending outward along the main highway.
Water is precious in this region, and a reservoir near the town is one of the most visible shapes on the map, a broad, irregular body of water beside the grid. Around it, the land is open, with scattered roads, farm tracks and patches of vegetation. On a print, the town's straight lines contrast with the loose shapes of the landscape.
