Raḩīmah sits on the Arabian Gulf coast of Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province, at the base of the narrow Ras Tanura peninsula. From above, the coastline does most of the work. A thin finger of land reaches north into the sea, the shallows of Tarut Bay lie to one side and the flat desert stretches inland.
The town is closely tied to the Ras Tanura refinery and oil terminal, among the oldest and largest in the region. Much of its layout reflects that planned origin. The residential districts are orderly, with regular blocks, wide roads and clear divisions between housing, industry and shoreline.
A Raḩīmah map poster shows the whole setting at once: the tidy street grid, the long peninsula and the open water. Since so much of the frame is sea and sand, the lines that are there, especially the coast, carry real weight.
