Rembertów is a district on Warsaw's eastern edge, on the right bank of the Vistula and far from the dense centre. On a map it looks unusual for a capital: residential streets in small, irregular grids, broken up by large areas of pine forest and open military ground. The built-up area feels more like a series of garden settlements than part of a major city.
The district has long been tied to the army. The War Studies University occupies a large campus here, and extensive training grounds lie nearby.
