Riverdale is a small city in Clayton County, Georgia, a short drive south of downtown Atlanta and close to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. It grew mostly in the second half of the twentieth century as part of the region's expanding suburbs, and its layout clearly reflects that period.
On a map, the city consists of main commercial roads, lined with shopping centres and car parks, and quieter residential areas in between with curving streets and cul-de-sacs. Small creeks and wooded strips weave through the area, following low ground and leaving green gaps between the neighbourhoods.
