Rugao Map Poster & Print
Rugao lies in the flat country north of the Yangtze in Jiangsu, a county-level city administered by Nantong. The land is almost level and full of water, so the map is defined as much by canals, ponds and irrigation channels as by roads. The historic centre sits within loops of waterways that trace the old moats that once enclosed the walled town.
Rugao is known for Shuihui Garden, a classical garden in the old town associated with the late Ming scholar Mao Xiang, and for its own distinctive tradition of bonsai. The city also has a reputation in China for the longevity of its residents, a trait often cited in national discussions of ageing and health.
Outside the centre, newer districts spread in a looser grid, broken by watercourses and fields. A Rugao map poster rewards a close look: the fine lines of canals and the rounded path of the old moats form a pattern quite different from the straight, wide avenues of the growing town around them.

Canal network
Canals and channels cross the plain in every direction, adding a second, finer network of lines beside the roads that gives the map its layered texture.
Garden town centre
The old town, home to Shuihui Garden, keeps a denser and more intricate street pattern than the planned districts that have grown up around it.

For people from Rugao or the Nantong region, this map captures a town where water still shapes daily life. Its fine canal lines and circular core make a delicate print that looks especially good at larger sizes.
