Rura is a town in Kanpur Dehat district of Uttar Pradesh, on the broad, level plain between the Ganges and Yamuna. From above, the town looks like a compact settlement of close-set lanes. Open agricultural land surrounds it on every side, divided into small fields that stretch towards the horizon.
The railway line is the clearest structure in Rura's plan. The town grew with the station, and its main streets link the tracks to the older market area and the roads leading out to nearby villages. Away from the centre, the pattern loosens into scattered houses, orchards and farm tracks.
