Şabbāshahr lies in Tehran province, on the flat plain west of the capital near Shahriar. It is a relatively young town, and its map shows this clearly. Streets run in regular blocks and long straight avenues, a planned pattern rather than the winding lanes of older Iranian towns. At its edges the built-up area meets farmland and orchards.
The plain around it is intensively farmed and crossed by irrigation lines, roads and the spreading suburbs of greater Tehran.
