Saiha, also known as Siaha, is the headquarters of the district of the same name in southern Mizoram and the main town of the Mara people. Like most Mizo towns, it sits on a ridge. From above, the roads trace switchbacks down the slopes, and houses line them in tight rows wherever the ground allows.
The surrounding country is steep, green and cut by deep valleys. The Kolodyne River, known locally as Chhimtuipui, runs through the district toward Myanmar. Palak Dil, the largest natural lake in Mizoram, lies in Saiha district and is valued for its wetlands and birdlife.
