Salto do Lontra is a municipality in southwestern Paraná, a region of family farms and small towns settled mostly during the twentieth century. On the map, the urban area is a small, fairly regular block of streets. Straight roads run out from it into the surrounding agricultural land.
The countryside around the town is gently undulating, and streams and small rivers cut through it toward larger rivers in the basin. Fields and woodland make an irregular mosaic, and the rural roads lie over it like a thin net linking farms to the town.
