São Sepé is a town in the centre of Rio Grande do Sul, in the south of Brazil. It takes its name from Sepé Tiaraju, the Guarani leader who resisted the Spanish and Portuguese in the eighteenth century and is still remembered as a regional hero across the state.
The landscape is the gently rolling country typical of central Rio Grande do Sul, used for cattle ranching and crops. From above, the town is a fairly regular grid of blocks, with a few main roads leading out across the countryside and field boundaries forming large, calm shapes around the urban edge.
