Setia Alam is a planned township in Shah Alam, Selangor, developed from the early 2000s on land that was once largely agricultural. Seen from above, it looks very different from older Malaysian towns: gently curving main roads divide the area into separate precincts, each filled with loops, crescents and cul-de-sacs of terraced and semi-detached houses.
The township was developed by S P Setia, one of Malaysia's larger property developers, and follows a model of guarded neighbourhoods, landscaped parks and a central commercial area. A regional shopping mall and rows of shophouses give it a focal point, while highways link it to Klang, the rest of Shah Alam and Kuala Lumpur.
