Shāhābād is a town in Hardoi district, Uttar Pradesh, on the broad, level plain that stretches across much of northern India. From above, the settled area is dense and compact. Narrow lanes and closely built blocks fill the core, and the streets become more open toward the edges.
The land around the town is intensively farmed, and the fields form a patchwork right up to the last houses. Roads connect Shāhābād to Hardoi and other towns in the district. Much of the newer building has followed these routes, which gives the outline a slightly star-like shape.
