Shahrak-e Ţāleqānī lies in the east of Khuzestan province, on the arid lowlands where the plains of southwestern Iran begin to rise toward the Zagros Mountains. The word shahrak means a small or new town, and the layout matches: the streets form a mostly regular pattern with long, straight roads and fairly uniform blocks.
Seen from above, the town stands out clearly from the open land around it. Past the edges, the map becomes sparse, with a few roads, field boundaries and watercourses running across dry country, and the high ground of the foothills in the distance.
