Shiki Map Poster & Print
Shiki is a small, densely built city in southern Saitama Prefecture, part of the continuous urban area northwest of Tokyo. Like many Kanto suburbs, its map is fine-grained. Narrow lanes branch in irregular patterns, reflecting old field paths and village roads that were built over as the city grew, rather than a planned grid.
Water marks the city's boundaries. The broad Arakawa runs to the east, with wide levees and floodplain along its banks, and the Yanase river winds through the city to join it. Railway lines to central Tokyo cross the area and bring the steady commuter flow that defines life in Shiki. On a map, the river channels stand out clearly against the dense housing.
A Shiki map poster captures the tight texture of suburban Japan. The density of streets makes the sheet nearly solid in places, broken by the curves of the rivers and the straight lines of the rail. In Classic black & white, the fine detail comes out especially well at larger sizes.

Yanase river
A smaller river winds through the city toward the Arakawa, adding a gentle curve to the fine-grained street pattern.
Fine street mesh
Narrow, irregular lanes fill almost every space between the main roads, giving the map a dense texture typical of Kanto suburbs.

For many people, Shiki is where they found a first apartment within reach of Tokyo, raised children, or cycled along the Arakawa on weekends. A map shows the whole city at once, in more detail than you notice on the way to the station.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line are editable, and there are five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Six print sizes come as 300 DPI PNG and print-ready PDF for $9.
