Sinjai lies on the eastern coast of the southern arm of Sulawesi, facing the Gulf of Bone. It is the main town of Sinjai Regency, and its map shows a compact grid of streets near the shore, with roads leading inland towards hills and farmland.
The coast is a mix of river mouths, fishponds and mangroves, and the map shows it as a complex, finely broken edge rather than a clean line.
