Irrigation canals
Canals and ditches run through and around the town and supply the gardens and fields. On the map they appear as long thin lines, often parallel to the roads beside them.

Sultonobod Map Poster & Print
Sultonobod is in Uzbekistan's Andijan Region, in the eastern part of the Fergana Valley, close to the border with Kyrgyzstan. The valley is one of the most densely farmed areas in Central Asia. Water from the surrounding mountains is carried through a large network of canals, and that network shapes the map as much as the streets do.
From above, the town appears as a group of residential blocks and household plots, many of them long and narrow with gardens or orchards behind the houses. Roads and irrigation channels often run side by side in straight lines. Around the edges, the pattern of fields continues with no sharp boundary between town and farmland.
A Sultonobod map poster shows this carefully divided landscape in fine black lines. It has a rhythm of parallel plots, the long straight strokes of canals and the few main roads linking the town with Andijan and the rest of the valley. It is an orderly, quiet image of a farming place.

Narrow household plots
Many houses sit at the front of deep, narrow plots with orchards or vegetable gardens behind them. From above, this creates a repeating, comb-like pattern along the streets.
Valley setting
The Fergana Valley is ringed by mountain ranges, and this town lies in its eastern part. The ground within the valley is fairly flat, which lets streets and canals run straight.
