Suva Reka lies in southern Kosovo, in a valley between the cities of Prizren and Pristina. From above, the town spreads out along the main road connecting the two. Its central streets are fairly compact, while houses and side roads extend outward into the fields and toward low hills on both sides of the valley.
Its name means 'dry river' in Slavic languages, and the Albanian name, Suhareka, has the same origin. The surrounding area is agricultural, with vineyards and orchards on the slopes, and villages scattered along the roads leading out of town.
