Taman Melati is a residential area in the northeast of Kuala Lumpur, close to the boundary with Gombak. On a map it is a patchwork of housing estates with curving streets and cul-de-sacs, set on gently undulating ground as the city begins to climb towards the hills.
The neighbourhood is served by a station on the Kelana Jaya light-rail line, whose route cuts a clear line across the surrounding streets. Nearby university campuses and green spaces add larger open areas to the otherwise dense residential fabric.
A Taman Melati map poster shows the transitional character of Kuala Lumpur's edge. The street pattern is more organic than in the central grids, the rail line runs clean and straight, and the green slopes are close at hand. It is a subtle, finely detailed print.
