Tsing Yi is an island in Hong Kong's Kwai Tsing District, lying just off the western shore of Kowloon and the New Territories. From above, it has a steep, green centre around Tsing Yi Peak, ringed by a narrow coastal strip packed with high-rise housing estates, industrial sites and container terminals.
The Rambler Channel separates the island from Kwai Chung and Tsuen Wan, and over the years reclamation has reshaped much of the shoreline. A Tsing Yi Town map poster shows the dense residential northeast, the container berths along the eastern edge, and the oil depots and shipyards along the southern and western coasts.
Several bridges connect the island to the rest of Hong Kong, including the Tsing Ma Bridge, a large suspension bridge on the route to Lantau and the airport. On the map, these crossings are thin lines reaching out from the island in several directions.
