Unamaucheri lies on the southern edge of the Chennai metropolitan area in Tamil Nadu. For a long time this part of the Coromandel plain was village land. Over recent decades the city has pushed south, and localities like this one now sit where rural settlement and new residential development meet.
On the map the ground is flat, and that shows in the way streets are laid out. Newer housing plots form small, rectilinear grids. Older lanes follow looser, earlier lines. Water tanks and lakes, common across this part of Tamil Nadu, appear as broad pale shapes, and main roads connect the area northward toward the city.
