Unión de Reyes Map Poster & Print
Unión de Reyes lies in the interior of Matanzas Province, away from the coast, on level plains long given over to sugarcane and cattle. Its map is modest and tidy: a compact grid of blocks around a central plaza, the Spanish colonial pattern repeated in towns across Cuba, with roads reaching out from the edges into the surrounding countryside.
Railways played a large part in the growth of towns like this one, carrying cane to the mills, and rail lines still cross the landscape around it. Beyond the edge of town, the map opens into large rectangles of farmland, divided by tracks and field roads rather than streets. It is a quiet, rural composition, defined by space as much as by lines.
A Unión de Reyes map poster is a personal object for Cuban families here and abroad, a way to keep the shape of a hometown close. The simplicity of the plan suits monochrome well: a small, dense knot of blocks at the centre and fine lines spreading outward into open land in every direction.

Rail lines
Railway tracks cross the area, a reminder of the sugar economy that shaped the province, drawn as long, confident lines against the fields.
Open cane plains
Large, regular parcels of farmland surround the town, leaving wide blank areas that give the composition breathing room and a sense of the flat Matanzas landscape.
