The town's streets fit around the surrounding slopes, giving the centre an irregular, organic outline rather than a regular grid.

Vavatenina Map Poster & Print
Vavatenina is a town in the Analanjirofo region on the eastern side of Madagascar, inland from the coastal town of Fenoarivo Atsinanana. From above it is a modest cluster of streets in hilly, well-watered country. Roads follow the valleys, and the town has grown along them rather than to a formal plan.
The region's name refers to clove trees, and the surrounding landscape is agricultural, with cloves, coffee, vanilla and rice among the crops grown across eastern Madagascar. On a map this translates into a sparse network of tracks and small settlements scattered through the hills, with the town as the main local centre.
A Vavatenina map poster favours open space and fine lines. The town's streets form the densest part of the image, while watercourses and the roads toward the coast lead the eye outward. It is a quiet, personal subject that renders cleanly in any of the five styles.

Route to the coast
The road east toward Fenoarivo Atsinanana and the Indian Ocean coast gives the composition a clear direction and ties the town to the wider region.
