Vršac is located in the Banat region of Vojvodina, near the Romanian border, where the flat Pannonian plain meets the Vršac Hills. On the map, the town's streets spread out on the plain, with a compact centre and wide avenues, while the hills rise to the east and shape the edge of the city.
A medieval tower stands on a hilltop above the town and is its most recognisable landmark. Vršac is also well known for wine: vineyards cover the slopes around the town, and winemaking has been important here for centuries. The town's centre has many buildings from the Habsburg era.
