Wangpu Map Poster & Print
Wangpu lies in eastern Gansu Province, in the loess country of northwestern China. This is a landscape built from wind-blown silt deposited over a very long period, then carved by water into deep gullies, rounded hills and steep valleys. Towns here tend to gather along valley floors, where the ground is flattest and roads can pass through.
Wangpu follows the pattern common to settlements in this terrain: a built-up strip along the lowest ground, with a main road running through it and smaller lanes branching toward the slopes. Around it, the hillsides are marked by the curving lines of terraced fields, cut into the loess to hold soil and water for farming.
A Wangpu map poster renders that landscape in simple lines: the valley corridor, the branching gullies and the hills rising on either side. Even in black and white, the design conveys how carefully people have adapted to difficult ground in this part of China, turning steep, dry slopes into land that can be farmed.

Loess gullies
Branching gullies cut into the soft loess around the town, forming a tree-like network of channels that gives the surrounding map its texture.
Terraced slopes
Farmland is stepped into the hillsides in curving terraces, fine contour-like lines that wrap around the slopes surrounding the settlement.
