Warner Robins lies in Houston County in central Georgia, south of Macon. From above, its most striking feature is Robins Air Force Base on the eastern side, where a long runway and wide airfield take up a large, flat area. The city spreads west from the base in a network of suburban streets.
The city grew up around the base, which opened during the Second World War. It took its name from General Augustine Warner Robins. The Museum of Aviation, next to the base, is one of the largest aerospace museums in the Air Force. The base is still the main employer in the area.
