Wujia is a town in the western part of Chongqing Municipality, a region of low, rounded hills rather than the steep gorges found further east. The landscape here is intensely farmed, and the map shows it: roads rarely run straight for long, bending around slopes and following the valleys where the ground is easiest to build on.
The built area is compact, with a main street and a cluster of blocks at its centre, and smaller hamlets scattered along the surrounding lanes. Field terraces, ponds and small reservoirs are typical of this part of Sichuan Basin country and give the countryside a fine, irregular texture.
