Xianshuigu lies in Jinnan District, in the south-eastern part of Tianjin. The land here is low and flat, close to the Bohai coast, and water is part of the landscape. From above, the town is a mix of older streets and newer planned districts, all set among canals, drainage channels and ponds.
Main roads run in straight lines, dividing the area into wide blocks. Within them, residential compounds, schools and industrial sites form rectangles of varying size. The Xianshuigu map poster shows the order of this layout, with the waterways adding thin, sometimes curving lines that soften the grid.
As Tianjin has expanded, the area has seen new development, including education and research campuses in the wider district. These appear as large open blocks with internal paths and lakes. In black and white, the composition becomes a precise pattern of blocks and water on a level plain.
