Yutz sits on the right bank of the Moselle, directly opposite Thionville in the north of Lorraine. On a map, the river forms its western edge, with bridges linking the two towns. From the riverbank, residential streets and newer districts spread east across flat land, while roads and railway lines run north toward the borders of Luxembourg and Germany.
The town grew alongside the industrial development of the Moselle valley, when steelworks and railways shaped the region. Today it is part of the Thionville urban area, with commuters travelling toward Luxembourg for work, and a mix of older neighbourhoods and modern housing.
