The railway axis
The Trans-Siberian line cuts straight through the town, and the map reads as two halves joined by crossings, with streets and blocks lined up along the tracks.

Zavodoukovsk Map Poster & Print
Zavodoukovsk lies in the south of Tyumen Oblast, on the flat, forested plain of Western Siberia. From above, the town is shaped first by the railway: the line runs straight through it, and much of the street pattern follows or crosses that axis, with blocks of low houses and larger apartment districts arranged on either side.
The town grew from older villages and a station on the Trans-Siberian route, and received town status in the Soviet period. Nearby runs the river Uk, a tributary of the Tobol, whose curving course contrasts with the straight lines of the rails and streets. Around the town the map opens into fields, woodland and the small lakes common across this part of Siberia.
A Zavodoukovsk map poster shows a place defined by movement and distance: a long, linear settlement tied to one of the world's great railways, with private-house streets in loose grids and a river bending past. In black and white, the simplicity of the plan becomes its character, spare and orderly against the open land around it.

River Uk
A winding river passes the town on its way to the Tobol, adding a soft, irregular line to an otherwise straight-edged street plan.
Low-rise grids
Much of the town is made up of streets of detached wooden and brick houses in regular rows, giving the map an even, finely drawn texture.
