Zhiping lies in the southwestern part of Chongqing municipality, in the hilly country that fills much of the region between its rivers. On a map the town is shaped by terrain: it occupies the flatter land where valleys meet and follows them outward in narrow arms.
Main roads bend to follow the land, and newer development fills whatever level ground is available, sometimes in straighter blocks that contrast with the curving older streets. Outside the town, narrow roads wind across ridges and around fields, and small reservoirs and ponds appear as scattered shapes.
A Zhiping map poster brings those contrasts together: curved hillside streets beside neater new blocks, and a few long roads reaching out into the hills. It is a clean picture of a small town in the Chongqing uplands.
