The railway junction
Lines converge on Znamyanka from several directions, and the wide spread of tracks and yards forms the strongest shape on the map, dividing the town into distinct halves.

Znamyanka Map Poster & Print
Znamyanka sits in the Kirovohrad region of central Ukraine, and from above it is easy to read the reason it exists. The town grew in the late nineteenth century around a station on a new railway line, and the tracks still dominate the plan. Broad bands of rail and sidings cut through the built-up area, and the neighbourhoods arrange themselves on either side of them.
Away from the railway, the street pattern is modest and practical. Short blocks of private houses with long garden plots run in loose rows, broken here and there by larger apartment blocks and school grounds. Toward the edges, the grid thins out into open fields and patches of woodland, and the forested area known as Chornyi Lis lies not far from the town, a darker mass on any wider view.
A Znamyanka map poster keeps all of this in plain black lines on white. The heavy strokes of the railway, the finer mesh of residential lanes and the soft boundary where houses give way to farmland make a composition that is quiet but clearly structured, a portrait of a town built by and for the junction at its centre.

Garden-plot streets
Much of the town is made of low houses on long narrow plots, which produce a regular, finely combed texture of parallel lanes when drawn from above.
Forest on the edge
Woodland lies close to the town, so a slightly wider frame picks up the contrast between the dense street network and the open, unmarked ground of forest and field.

ለምን Znamyanka
ትርጉም ያለው ካርታ
For people who grew up in Znamyanka, worked on the railway or passed through its station on long journeys, the map is an immediately recognisable outline. The converging tracks are the town's signature, and on a wall they read as both a memory and a clean piece of graphic design.
You can add your own title, subtitle and a coordinates line, perhaps a family name or the year you left, and choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Download HD files for $9 or order a printed poster on matte paper, framed if you like.
