Zuru lies in the south of Kebbi State in northwestern Nigeria, in open savanna country. From above, the town appears as a broad, low-density settlement. Main roads converge on it from several directions, and compounds, lanes and open ground spread out between them in a pattern that grows more scattered toward the edges.
The centre is denser, with markets, public buildings and closely packed compounds along the main roads. Beyond it the streets become irregular and the built-up area thins into farmland and bush, so the shape of the town is organic rather than planned.
A Zuru map poster shows that gradual shift from dense centre to open land. Zuru is the seat of the Zuru Emirate and an important centre for the Dakarkari people. The town's road links tie it to farming communities across southern Kebbi and the neighbouring states.
