Chumbao River corridor
The river runs down the valley and the town grows along it. This gives the poster a strong linear axis that most of the street network follows.

Andahuaylas Map Poster & Print
Andahuaylas lies high in the Andes of southern Peru, in the valley of the Chumbao River. On a map the town is long and narrow. It follows the water and the flat valley floor while mountain slopes close in on both sides. Near the centre the streets form a Spanish-style grid around the main plaza, stretched and bent where the terrain requires it.
Andahuaylas is the main town of its province and a market centre for the surrounding farming communities, and it is one of the few places in Apurímac with an airport. The region is linked to the Chanka people, who fought the Inca for control of these highlands, and the country around nearby Lake Pacucha belongs to that history.
An Andahuaylas map poster keeps to the essentials: the line of the river, the dense blocks around the centre, the roads running along the valley to neighbouring towns, and the emptier ground where the slopes rise. Altitude shaped this town, and the land decides where the streets can go.

Grid around the plaza
Close to the centre, blocks settle into a regular grid around the main square. This is the densest and most geometric part of the map.
Valley-floor airport
The airport sits on the flat ground of the valley. Its straight runway is a clean, ruler-like mark among the irregular farm tracks and winding roads.

Məna daşıyan xəritə
Many people leave Andahuaylas for Lima or Cusco and still call it home. A map of the valley with the river at its centre keeps that geography on the wall, for someone from the town or for a traveller who crossed the Andes by this route.
