Manger Square
The open square in front of the Church of the Nativity is the clearest landmark on the map, a calm space at the eastern end of the old town.

Bethlehem Map Poster & Print
Bethlehem stands on a ridge in the Judaean hills, about ten kilometres south of Jerusalem, in the West Bank. For Christians around the world it is known as the birthplace of Jesus. The Church of the Nativity and the pilgrimage route leading to it have been inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The old town is built along the ridge, and its streets bend with the terrain instead of following a grid. Narrow lanes and stairways drop down the slopes, and Star Street and the surrounding lanes lead toward Manger Square in front of the basilica. Beit Jala and Beit Sahour join the city on either side.
A Bethlehem map poster shows how closely the city fits its hills. Streets follow the contour lines, terraces step down the valleys, and one large open square sits at the heart of the old town. It is a map for pilgrims, for families from the city and for anyone who carries it in memory.

Ridge-following streets
The old town's streets curve with the ridge and slopes of the Judaean hills. On paper they form an irregular, organic web instead of a grid.
Neighbouring towns
Beit Jala and Beit Sahour spread from Bethlehem's edges, so the three towns merge into a single built-up area on the surrounding hills.
