The river runs past Bolenge as a wide, braided channel with islands and sandbars. On the poster it is the dominant shape, a broad dark band beside the town.

Bolenge Map Poster & Print
Bolenge sits on the bank of the Congo River in Équateur province, a short distance south of Mbandaka and almost exactly on the line of the equator. From above, the water is the main feature. The wide channel of the river, with its long islands and sandbars, takes up much of the frame, and the settlement stretches along its edge in a thin band of streets and plots.
Away from the river, the pattern loosens. Straight tracks lead inland past compounds and gardens, and the paths turn into patches of forest and wetland that show up as open space on a monochrome print. The place has long been known for its Protestant mission station, one of the older ones on this stretch of the river. It gives a quiet settlement a longer story than its size suggests.
A Bolenge map poster works because the contrast is so plain. There is one very large river, a thin line of town, and a lot of open ground. In black and white, the river channels become solid shapes and the roads become fine threads. The result reads almost like a diagram of how people settle along a great waterway, at the point where the northern and southern hemispheres meet.

On the equator
The town lies almost exactly at zero degrees latitude. A personalised coordinates line on the poster makes that unusual position easy to show.
Riverside strip
Streets and plots line the bank in a narrow band before giving way to tracks and green space inland. The result is a long, low composition shaped by the water.

Niyə Bolenge
Məna daşıyan xəritə
People from Bolenge and Mbandaka, and people whose families have ties to the region's mission history, often want a picture of home that is calm rather than decorative. A map of the river bank does that. It holds a precise place without needing a photograph.
