The Narrows
The strait is at its tightest in front of the city, and the Asian and European shores almost face each other. On paper, this becomes a strong diagonal band of water.

Çanakkale Map Poster & Print
Çanakkale sits on the Asian shore of the Dardanelles, at the point where the strait narrows to little more than a kilometre. Across the water, the town of Kilitbahir and its Ottoman fortress stand on the Gallipoli peninsula, in Europe. On a map, the city hugs a curving shoreline, and the Sarıçay stream cuts through the centre on its way to the strait.
The Dardanelles has always given the place strategic importance. The Ottoman Çimenlik fortress stands on the waterfront, and the 1915 Gallipoli campaign fields lie just across the water. The ancient site of Troy is a short distance south. Since 2022, the 1915 Çanakkale Bridge has crossed the strait northeast of the city with one of the world's longest suspension spans.
A Çanakkale map poster turns the strait into a wide band of empty space. The city's grid presses against it on one side and the peninsula's quieter coastline sits on the other. The waterfront promenade, the ferry piers and the bend of the shore give the composition its main line.

Sarıçay stream
A small river runs through the city and reaches the strait near the centre, adding a thin curving line through the otherwise regular street pattern.
Kilitbahir opposite
Across the water, the fortress town of Kilitbahir sits on the Gallipoli shore. Frame the map a little wider and both continents appear in one poster.

Niyə Çanakkale
Məna daşıyan xəritə
Çanakkale draws students, travellers following the history of Troy and Gallipoli, and people with family ties to the region. The strait gives the map an instantly recognisable shape, and water is always a strong element in black and white.
You can add your own title, subtitle and coordinates line, for example with a crossing date or a university year. Five styles are available: Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Blueprint works especially well with the maritime character of the Dardanelles.
