Fox River
The river runs through the town with parkland and a trail along its banks. It forms a clear natural line that divides the map into east and west.

Carpentersville Map Poster & Print
Carpentersville sits on the Fox River northwest of Chicago, and the river sets the tone of its map. A small original settlement lies on the banks, with short, fairly regular blocks near the water. From there the town climbs away from the river valley. Its street pattern also changes, from a compact core to much more open suburban layouts.
Much of Carpentersville grew after the Second World War. The large Meadowdale development from that period gives the map its distinctive look: curving streets, loops and cul-de-sacs, very different from the straight section-line roads of the surrounding Illinois farmland. The town takes its name from the Carpenter family, who settled here and built a mill on the river in the nineteenth century.
A Carpentersville map poster places the old and the planned side by side. The Fox River runs north to south with a strip of wooded banks and trail along it. The historic core hugs the water, and the long-curving postwar neighbourhoods fill the land to the west. Straight regional roads frame all of it, and the contrast between these patterns makes a strong print.

Postwar curves
Large mid-century subdivisions add looping streets and cul-de-sacs west of the river. They create swirling patterns that stand out from the county's straight road grid.
Riverside core
The original settlement sits close to the water in short, tight blocks. It is the oldest part of town, and in a small space it shows how the place began.
