Doha Map Poster
Doha, the capital of Qatar, curves around a shallow bay on the east coast of the Qatar peninsula. The Corniche, a waterfront promenade several kilometres long, follows the bay in an almost perfect crescent, and it is the line most people recognise first. Inland, the city is organised by a series of ring roads, named by letters, that spread outwards in widening arcs.
At the northern end of the bay rise the towers of West Bay, while the southern end holds the Museum of Islamic Art, designed by I. M. Pei and set on its own small island. Nearby, Souq Waqif preserves the lanes of an older market district, and the National Museum by Jean Nouvel takes its form from the desert rose crystal.
Much of the coast has been reshaped. The Pearl and other developments project into the Gulf as engineered islands, and Hamad International Airport stands on reclaimed land. In 2022 the city hosted the FIFA World Cup. A Doha map poster shows the result: a clear crescent at the centre, ring-road arcs behind it and precise new shorelines along the sea.

Lettered ring roads spread from the bay in successive arcs, giving the inland city a clear, layered structure that is easy to read from above.
The Pearl
North of the centre, this artificial island extends into the Gulf with looping marinas and carefully drawn edges, a distinctly modern contrast to the natural line of the bay.
