Old town walls
Parts of the medieval fortifications still enclose the historic centre, and the compact street pattern within them stands out clearly against the newer districts around it.

Estavayer-le-Lac Map Poster & Print
Estavayer-le-Lac sits on the south-eastern shore of Lake Neuchâtel, in the canton of Fribourg. On a map the lake fills one side of the frame, and the old town rises just behind it: a compact pattern of streets on a low bluff, still partly enclosed by medieval walls and towers. Below, the shoreline flattens into a harbour, beaches and reed beds.
The Château de Chenaux, a thirteenth-century castle, stands at the edge of the old town and now houses the district prefecture. Fountains and the collegiate church of Saint-Laurent mark the historic centre. The town is also known for an unusual museum collection of stuffed frogs, arranged in nineteenth-century scenes of daily life.
Since 2017 the town has been part of the larger municipality of Estavayer, which joined it with several neighbouring villages. An Estavayer-le-Lac map poster centres on the historic town and its lakefront, showing the tight streets inside the old walls, the roads leading inland and the open expanse of the lake, broken only by the lines of the harbour.

Château de Chenaux
The castle occupies a prominent position at the edge of the old town, its compact footprint marking the transition between the historic streets and the lakeside below.
