Fylí Map Poster & Print
Fylí is a municipality on the northwestern edge of the Athens basin in Attica. It spreads from dense suburbs such as Ano Liosia and Zefyri up toward the forested slopes of Mount Parnitha. On the map the change is sharp: a close grid of streets on the plain gives way to scattered roads, switchbacks and open ground as the terrain rises to the north.
The name comes from ancient Phyle, a fortress on a pass through Parnitha on the route between Athens and Boeotia. In 403 BC Thrasybulus and a band of exiled democrats seized a stronghold here. Their move led to the fall of the Thirty Tyrants and the restoration of Athenian democracy. Remains of the fortress walls still stand on the hillside.
A Fylí map poster works best when it takes in both halves of the municipality: the tight residential blocks near the city and the mountain roads that climb away from them. The contrast between urban density and empty slopes gives the design a strong diagonal movement, and the edge of the Parnitha national park adds a large, calm area of open space.

Ancient Phyle fortress
The ruined walls of ancient Phyle sit on a rocky height above a pass through the mountain. Thrasybulus seized a fort here in 403 BC, the first step toward restoring Athenian democracy.
Suburban grid
Ano Liosia, Zefyri and the other lower districts are laid out in a tight grid of residential streets, a pattern that reads as dense texture against the open ground further north.
