Ridge-following roads
Rather than a planned grid, the roads trace the contours of the highland ridges, so the street network bends and branches in a way that shows the shape of the land underneath.

Kikuyu Map Poster & Print
From above, Kikuyu does not form a neat grid. Its streets follow the ridges and shallow valleys of the Kiambu highlands, so the town reads as a loose web of roads climbing and bending with the ground. Denser clusters of lanes sit around the commercial centre, then thin into farm tracks and scattered plots toward the edges, where the map opens into cultivated land.
The town sits just west of Nairobi, on the high country that runs toward the edge of the Great Rift Valley. The old Uganda Railway line passes through, and main roads out of the capital run close by, giving the drawing a few long, confident strokes that cut across the finer mesh of local streets. Those lines tie a hillside town to the wider region in a single frame.
Kikuyu is also known for its place in Kenyan education and church history. The Church of Scotland mission at Thogoto was established nearby in the late nineteenth century, and Alliance High School, founded in 1926, stands in the area. A Kikuyu map poster keeps none of these buildings as pictures, only the pattern of streets and paths that grew up around them.

The railway line
The historic Uganda Railway runs through the town, drawn as a long, steady line that contrasts with the irregular local lanes around it and marks Kikuyu's old link to Nairobi and the west.
Town and farmland edge
Toward the outskirts the dense centre loosens into tracks and small plots, and the map shows a clear shift from compact streets to the open, cultivated country of Kiambu County.

People choose this map when Kikuyu is part of their own story: a school they went to, a family home on one of the ridges, or a town they passed through on the way out of Nairobi. The drawing gives that attachment a quiet, lasting form on the wall.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, for example with a graduation year or a family name, and choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Get the HD digital files for $9, or order a printed poster, framed or unframed.
